"Product of the Year 2019": Lorenz Smart Water Meter wins EU Innovation Award
The Upper Austrian Economic Minister Markus Achleitner awarded Lorenz the EU MOVECO Innovation Award on May 14 in Linz. An international jury voted the digital radio water meter "Product of the Year 2019".
"Saving the environment and the climate with circular economy": Lorenz radio water meters are the "Product of the Year 2019" of the MOVECO Innovation Award within the framework of the Interreg programme of the European Union (EU).
An international jury of circular economy experts from the partner countries selected Lorenz as the winner in the category "Medium Enterprises". The Minister of Economic Affairs of Upper Austria, Markus Achleitner, handed over the prize at a festive ceremony on May 14 in Linz.
"Proves that environmental protection is possible in industry and production".
Highest quality and optimal measuring characteristics allow the long-term use of Lorenz measuring instruments over several calibration periods and the subsequent take-back, refurbishment and reuse. This concept has been further optimized for the latest generation of smart water meters. With a product volume of 1 million smart meters, Lorenz can save 400 tons of lead-free brass, 200 tons of plastics and 160 tons of electronics annually, as well as 3.156 tons of CO2 annually and six million kWh of electricity - this is the average annual electricity consumption of 1,664 Austrian households.
"The creative energy shown by the entrants and winners in their innovations on the subject of circular economy is motivating. The projects prove: "Environmental protection, sustainability, resource efficiency and circular economy are possible in all areas of industry and production", emphasised Economic Minister Markus Achleitner, "each of the winning projects reduces the CO2 footprint, is biodegradable or reusable, conserves resources and thus the environment and climate".
