As part of the RETHINK research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the project partners Software Factory, ITQ and the Institute for Machine Tools and Management Sciences at the Technical University of Munich have been researching ideas for the introduction of the circular economy over the past three years. The Lorenz company, a manufacturer of water meters, was involved as a practical partner. The aim of the RETHINK project was to integrate remanufacturing into existing production systems. With Industry 4.0 technologies, such as the digital twin, process efficiency should be maximized and resources conserved.
